A scheduled adjustment has passed since this rate took effect

This fee escalates annually. The rate on file is effective 1 Jul 2023, and at least one adjustment has fallen due since. The current amount is probably different, and for an indexed fee almost certainly higher. The next change after that is expected 1 Jul 2027.

The figure is published as held rather than projected forward, because a number computed from an index is not a number quoted from an adopted schedule. It is flagged so you can check the agency's current schedule before relying on it.

The record

Why it exists

“The Utility Undergrounding Fee pays for the relocation of certain overhead electric utilities from overhead to underground, generally along major streets in urbanizing areas.”

"Nexus Sheets for Development Impact Fees, Fiscal Year 2023-2024", Utility Undergrounding Fee sheet, "Purpose of Fee", p.27 of 33 · source document ↗
What it pays for

“Underground Overhead Utilities: The fee provides a funding source for the City to underground existing overhead utilities or to reimburse developers for the undergrounding of existing overhead utilities in excess of the development's proportionate share. Under-grounding of existing overhead utilities includes the undergrounding along certain arterial and collector streets.”

"Status Report of Development Fee Funds for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023", January 16, 2024, item 10 "Major Street Fees", p.5 · source document ↗
Where it applies

“Undergrounding existing overhead utilities is an aesthetic, and in many cases, safety enhancement to the general community. Each developing property within a benefit zone is deemed to receive a benefit that is uniform among property locations and development types. Therefore, the cost is spread among all properties equally on an acreage basis.”
